Job Title: Seasonal Farm Stand and Programs Manager
Location: Beaverland Farms, Brightmoor, Detroit
Employment Type: Part-time, Seasonal (30 weeks starting mid-April)
Job Summary:
Beaverland Farms is seeking a dedicated and community-oriented Seasonal Farm Stand and Programs Manager to support the operations of our community farm stand, and organize and facilitate farm events. This role is essential in ensuring that our farm stand remains a welcoming, organized, and vibrant space for local residents to access fresh, locally grown produce. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable agriculture, community engagement, and food access.
Hours: 15-20 hours per week.
Ideal schedule:
Thursday: 3 - 8 pm
Friday: 3 - 8 pm
Saturday: 9 - 2 pm
Additional hours spent at programming and farm events, at most 1 event per week.
Schedule is flexible depending on the applicant's availability, but must be maintained throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities:
Farm Stand Operations: Stock and maintain the farm stand, ensuring produce is fresh, organized, and visually appealing. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the farm stand area, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment as needed.
Customer Service: Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, providing information about farm produce, pricing, and sustainable farming practices.
Sales & Cashier Duties: Handle transactions, operate the point-of-sale system, and maintain accurate sales records.
Event Coordination: Schedule, promote, and assist in facilitating events and workshops at the farm.
Marketing Support: Assist in distributing marketing materials, including flyers and social media updates, to promote farm stand offerings and events. Compile and send weekly and monthly emailed newsletters.
Light Farming Tasks: As needed, assist with various farm tasks that can be completed during farm stand hours.
Qualifications:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for customer service, marketing, and community engagement.
Experience in farming, retail, farmers' markets, food service, or a related field is a plus.
Interest in sustainable agriculture, food systems, or community development.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Basic math and cash-handling skills.
Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently.
